74th Annual Hunger Games, Friends Edition!
Hey, I got bored one day, so I thought I’d write my own version with you guys in :*

This was it, the day every child, woman and man in the districts of Panem dread. The reaping, today 24 “lucky” young men and woman will be chosen to compete in the Hunger Games, but only one can be victorious. Across Panem the residents of each district are called to the centre of town to find out their fate.
One by one, a boy and a girl are called from each of the districts; last to select its tributes is District 12, the smallest and most poor district laid on the outskirts on Panem. Effie Trinket who is responsible for selecting tributes struts onto the stage her big pink blow flopping from side to side. “Welcome, Welcome” her voice booms across the square “The time has come to select the courageous young man and woman who will have the honour of representing District 12 in the 74thannual Hunger Games” she pauses looking into the ominous crowd, without hesitation she walks over to one of the reaping balls, “Ladies first!” she chirps.
“Our female tribute is..” she spends a good few seconds rummaging through the many names, before she pulls one out and struts back to the microphone, you could hear a pin drop in the square, and the girls hold their breaths, Effie unravels the paper...
“ABIGAIL MURPHY” She shouts out to the crowd. All eyes are turned on her, Abi is pushed up to the stage by the guards, she doesn’t scream, she doesn’t resist because she knows she can’t change fate. Effie holds her hand up on the stage, “Congratulations! You have the great honour of representing our District” Abi is then seated on a chair to the edge of the stage.
Effie now walks over to the boys reaping ball and repeats the process. She unravels the paper to reveal the name of the boy tribute…
“PEETA MALLARK”… Her voice rings, Peeta is also pushed by the guards onto the stage, “Our tributes, Peeta Mallark and Abigail Murphy” the rest of the ceremony is done swiftly, the tributes are allowed some time to talk to their loved ones, Abi talks to her parents before being taken to the train by Effie and Haymitch. Peeta follows shortly after he has spoken to his mother.
The train journey to Panem takes around a day, they are constantly being asked to eat, foods beyond people’s imaginations in District 12. As soon as they arrive they are whisked away to their prep team to get dressed for the opening ceremony, in which every tribute rides on a chariot dressed in an outfit to match their Districts speciality. This is the official mark of the games.
After retiring to their dormitories for the night and a whole day of getting prepared the opening ceremony can begin, this is the chance to see the other tributes for the first time, District after District they are released to the crowd, first the District 1 tributes are revealed to the capitol.
Their names, Danielle Brear and Cedar Wolf, who are dressed with such Luxury Items, their outfits made from the most expensive silk and decorated with the finest jewellery. Next the District 2 chariot and reveals it’s tributes Sophia Chan and Max Hornsby, wearing traditional dress to symbolise the districts masonry industry, District 2’s children are born warriors so Abi takes note that they’re going to be fierce competitors, the ceremony carries on chariot after chariot, Abi almost nods off but she is woken by Peeta who tells her to take note “If you get tired while we’re going around just rest on my arm” he tells her.
District 3 tributes, Sophie Mason and Calvin Grove are followed by District 4’s Aurora Cosmos and Joe Shaw, who are followed shortly after by District 5’s Heather Murphy and Alex Basker. The celebrations are getting more active, and Abi and Peeta are lifted onto their chariot to get ready to move, “saving the best till last” Abi sniggers to herself. District 6’s Emily Deguil and Seville Carlson, are just in front of District 7’s Lydia Bonnefoy-Jenkinson and Isobel Bonnefoy-Jenkinson. Peeta and Abi’s chariot starts to move out into the open, the roar of the crowd is amazing and gives them an instant buzz no way could Abi be tired but she desperately wanted to rest on Peeta’s shoulder.
District 8’s tributes Bernie Parkes and Malcolm Pear had just made it to the end but Abi didn’t care anymore all the attention was on her, it was her moment she waved to the crowd and blew kisses, feeling a little high from the adrenalin rush, she had never felt like this before. District 9’s Ellie Buck and Jared Kato and made it to the end, followed directly by District 10’s Amanpreet Kaur and Anil Basker. Abi was almost to the end she wanted to stay in this dream forever she didn’t want to go to the hell which was in the arena, District 11’s Ruth Nicholson and Cliff Stone made it to the end, which meant it was now Abi’s and Peetas turn, Abi felt like she floated off the chariot as she touched the floor she woke up, she couldn’t feel like this in the arena.
The next day public and private training had taken place and finished, Abi did a few moves with her spear, she was very flexible, she also tried out some camouflage to try and show the game makers she was versatile, she bowed to them and left the room to wait for the scores to be posted. Later that evening Haymitch, Effie, Peeta and Abi sat in front of the screen one after one the scores were posted:

“Well Done!” Peeta hugged Abi, “how did you manage that” “Meh, beginners luck” Abi said back, her cheeks becoming a little flushed, finally Peeta’s score of 10 flashed up on the screen. “Look at us!” Abi said while gleaming, hopefully the other tributes wouldn’t see us as threats and come running after us.

The morning of the games had arrived, Abi stood neatly on her plate ready to be raised up to the arena. She says her final words to Effie who wipes a tear from her face as she walks away, Abi is then raised up after a good minute the breeze brushes against her hair and her eyes adjust to the change of light, and she is now stood directly in front of the Cornucopia.
She can now see the other tributes stood ready to begin, opposite her is Joe and Aurora the District 4 tributes staring at some neat weapons to the side, Peeta is a few plates away from her stood inbetween Danielle and Seville. Abi turns to her left and then to her right to see she is stood inbetween Ruth and Anil…

All the tributes have flung off their plates and are running in a whole manner of directions; Abi grabs a backpack near the forest narrowly missing Anil who is stabbed in the back by who appears to be Sophia. The tributes from Districts 1, 2 and 4 have quickly gained control of the Cornucopia, Ruth takes her chance to try and grab a long knife in front of her as she dives for it she is pounced on by Cedar who kills her with ease.
Abi is running through the forest to her side she can see an ombre haired girl running at the same speed, she can see a small locket trailing behind on her neck it looked very similar to her own, she was given the locked when she was split from her sister in District 5 to refuge to District 12, both of the sisters had half of the locket, “Don’t be silly, what are the chances” Abi thought to herself. A couple of miles back near a shallow stream Bernie was filling up her bottle with water, she is startled when she receives a blow to the head and is pushed into the stream, the killer is revealed to be Joe.
Abi decides she has walked enough and takes refuse in a nearby tree. Cannons have been firing all day to symbolize a dead tributes, the majority of deaths happen on day 1 at the Cornucopia but Abi hasn’t seen much action, she thought long and hard about Peeta while the sky showed who had been killed today,, Alex… Isobel…. Malcolm….Cliff…. Max…. Bernie….Sophie….Anil…. and Ruth had perished today, leaving 15 tributes.

The sunlight streaked through the small gaps in the leaves on the tree above her head, morning had arrived, Abi fidgeted a bit before stretching out and sitting upright, little bugs crawled across the floor and there wasn’t a noise to be heard it was so tranquil one could easily think they were dreaming. Abi checked her backpack to see her contents only to find some bread was missing, someone must have come in the night, she was only thankful they didn’t take her life.
“Guess it’s time to move” she said to herself, the truth is she didn’t want to go, for the first time she realized she was scared, there were some serious killers in the arena with her, the person that took her bread was no way a career tribute, “Don’t let them see you scared” she thought to herself and made her way towards what looked like a clearing ahead.

The cameras across the Capitol had focused their attention elsewhere, near the Cornucopia stands a mountain accessible from three paths, the Cornucopia, the east and the west, so a powerful territory to be in charge of, a few of the tributes from the worse Districts had found themselves trapped by Career tributes. District 4’s Aurora and Joe had pulled out their spears and were chasing Lydia and Seville, Aurora threw her spear into Lydia killing her. A few meters away Danielle was sneaking around some bushes with Cedar, Jared didn’t see this as he was trying to run away and got struck in the head by her mace. Seville also couldn’t get away.
Abi had found her clearing the grass had grown quite a bit, it would be a good place to keep a lookout, she found a spot in the corner of the clearing and spaced out her things, she needed some water, she closed her eyes and listened carefully she heard the running of water in the distance, so started walking, it took shorter than she thought and she had arrived at a beautiful hidden river, she looked over to see a pink bird drinking from it so she knew it was safe, in previous games the water had been poisonous.
While she was filling up her flask she heard a rustle in the bushes, Emily the tribute from District 6 stumbled out her arm was badly bleeding and she fell to the ground, not dead as no cannon sounded, Abi watched her squirm for a bit, she couldn’t risk helping her incase her attacker was using this as a decoy, in the end her guilt took over and she crossed the river to Emily, she held her flowing red hair back and gave her some water, Emily spat it out as Calvin Grove from District 3 came out of the bushes holding an axe, Abi had no weapons so she grabbed a stick from the ground, Calvin ran towards her.
Abi jumped out of the way and ran behind him jabbing him with the stick, he swung backwards the axe missing her face by an inch, he then swung again and again, Abi was finding it hard to dodge, she was walking backwards and tripped over Emily, Calvin swung his axe into Emily which finished her, Abi defenseless on the floor could do nothing, Calvin now took his axe over his head and sung it down with all his might towards Abi, her life flashed before her eyes , but the axe never came, she opened her eyes to find Calvin faced down in the river, and Joe from District 4 stood there, his dirty blonde hair swaying in the breeze looking handsome.
“Hi there” he said, “Why did you??” Abi replied back, “I’ve been watching you since training and I’ve been wanting to work with you” he answered, he then went onto explain, Abi finding it very hard to trust a Career tribute, but after all he did save her life, “Do you know about Heather?” he went onto ask, “Who??” Abi said. “The girl with the locket, she has one just like yours, I heard she’s camping out behind the mountain but I haven’t told anyone” he explained. “It seems to me, that you have the same locket and last name, are you sisters”? he went onto say. “No its Impossible” Abi said back.
Joe explained that he will always be close incase Abi needed him and he walked off into the bushes where he must have come from. The sun was now coming down leaving a beautiful sunset across the waters, Abi travelled back to her backpack to find more stolen bread, she rolled her eyes and drifted to sleep. After the sky had shown the dead tributes…. Calvin Groves (3)… Emily Deguil (6)… Seville Carlson (6)… Lydia Bonnefoy-Jenkinson (7)… Jared Kato (9) 10 tributes remain.

Abi awoke to drops of rain splashing onto her face, she jolted upright and wiped her face, the rain would make it harder to spot tributes, she was getting worried about Peeta, she remember when she was on the chariot with him and he winked at her, how special she felt, it made her miss him even more.
A swarm of pink birds flew over her, how pretty they looked they hardly have animals in the arena, she hoped they weren’t going to peck her to death. After the rain cleared she picked up her things and noticed crumbs had fallen out of her bag, that thief had stolen more bread! Some sort of a trail had been made, Abi followed them hesitantly, the let her through a forest, pine leaves had fallen making it look like the ground had been slavered in caramel, “I didn’t realize I had THIS much bread” she said,
After what seemed like forever the trail stopped, she looked around the surrounding area, nothing, the only sound that could be heard was the rain dropping off the leaves, a small shower of crumbs suddenly rained on her, she looked up to find the girl with the ombre hair from before… “H…Heather” Abi said, the girl jumped which unfocused her and she fell from the tree with a scream, Abi ran to help her “Are you ok?? Are you hurt?” she said frantically, Heather ensured she was fine, and jumped up and gave Abi a massive hug, “I knew it was you!!” she shouted,
The sisters caught up for hours, they had been separated as children and now they stood together in the arena, Heather insisted she wanted to be alone for a bit, she couldn’t bear seeing her sister die so she walked off after a kiss “Thanks for the bread!” she shouted followed by a short giggle. Over the other side of the forest Ellie was sprinting, she jumped over small rocks and roots of trees frantically trying to get away, she felt sick and fatigue took its toll, and she was sliced from behind, BOOOM!! The cannons sound rang throughout the arena, Aurora walked away from the body adjusting her hair
Back at the Cornucopia the Careers were talking, “What are we doing now” Danielle demanded stamping her foot. “We can’t underestimate the tributes that are left” Sophie told her. “What??? Are you serious, they’re pathetic all of them, we can take them” Danielle said feistily. “You can be very stubborn little girl keep it shut until you know what you’re dealing with” Sophie growled back”. “Ladies please!!” Joe shouted as he walked over to them. “You’re not going to win these games this way, calm down”.

Over at the mountain Cedar the Career tribute from District 1 was walking along, all of a sudden he was thrown back into the air “GAHHHH” he shouted, he was trapped in rope. Amanpreet slowly walked out “Hi” she said, “Hey you little brat!!” he shouted back, “LET ME OUT”. “So you can kill me?” she replied. “Shame I’m faster” and she threw her daggers at Cedar killing him. The cannon rang. Which was heard loudly at the Cornucopia, “Ha told you Sophia that will be one of those stupid harmless tributes gone” Danielle sniggered.
It was that time again, the night painted the sky a rick dark black and the screen came up once more showing the new tributes that perished… Cedar Wolf (1)… Ellie Buck (9)… Danielle screamed and kicked a rock when she heard Cedar’s name. 8 tributes remain.

Abi woke up earlier than usual, she couldn’t sleep, how can you sleep at a time like this where could Peeta be, he isn’t dead yet but he hasn’t been heard from either, Abi walked around the arena kicking stones and mumbling to herself, the first beams of sunlight could be seen stretching across the arena it was like the grass had woken up as it now began to shine, how could she enjoy it though in a burst of anger she kicked a stone. “OUCH!” a voice said from ahead. Abi again weaponless grabbed a nearby stick, she kicked another stone “OUCH!!” the voice repeated, Abi jabbed the pile of leaves, “STOP IT” and the figure jumped up.
“PEETA!” Abi screeched and she ran to hug him, they embraced and Peeta sat her down and explained how he had been lying low, after the Cornucopia he tried to chase down Aurora but she was too fast, then he tried to target Joe but he told him about wanting to work with Abi. Then he just waited it out, ready to find you he said looking into Abi’s eyes. “At least you’re here now” she smiled back.
At the Cornucopia Danielle was shouting and bawling “How!! How did they kill Cedar! He was the strongest out of all of us, URRGH!, you know what? I’m getting them myself” and she stopped off into the clearing. “Wait!!” Sophia shouted and ran after her. “Aurora we better go as well” Joe said and they both walked off into the forest.
Aman had finished setting up another trap. Proud with her work she sat down and began peeling some fruit, she swallowed her orange segments and was feeling pretty happy with herself, she heard a rumble, which she thought nothing us but was disturbed by another. She looked up the mountain appeared to be cracking and with no doubt it was, she stood back amazing as it crashed to the ground, the game makers must have done it for a reason, all that remained was a few boulders.
Aman looked around looking for anything, the dust started to clear and she saw the figure of a girl stumbling out, Aman ran over to her, it was Heather she was badly bruised and she collapsed to the ground in front of her, Aman recognized her, they’d spoken a couple of times before with being in the same area a lot. “Congratulations tributes! You’ve made it so far, to celebrate I’d like to invite you to a feast tonight, a platform shall be raised at the Cornucopia with a bag marked with your District number, inside could be what you treasure the most, or what you treasure the least, I’ll love to see you there”

“I’ll get you something for your wounds tonight” Aman told Heather. Over in the forest Abi and Peeta were discussing whether or not to go, after coming to the conclusion that they should they started to make arrangements. Abi wanted to make herself busy so she went to the edge of the clearing where there were some of those pink birds, their feathers look like razors and would be great on the bow Peeta has with him. Abi pulls out her only weapon a small knife, she throws it but misses and the birds edge slightly out of the way
“Pathetic!” someone says from the side of her “So Pathetic! Why do they let people like you into these games” It was Danielle she walked from the trees even her presence was mocking Abi in every way, “You can’t even throw a knife” she says, then looks over at Peeta “Oh he’s cute, you with him? Haha I know, I’m joking of course you’re not” Her voice was so spiteful and demeaning. “Still I can’t complain too much, easy picking and all that” She said as she pulled her mace out, and started running towards her.
“PEETAAAAA” Abi shouted while running for her knife she grabbed it and narrowly dodged Danielle’s knife, “PEEETA” she shouted again, but no one was coming. “HA Lover boy isn’t coming” Danielle mocked again. She swung her mace and lunged for Abi again, behind the trees close by Joe threw his spear at the birds, this got them angry and those razor like feather now looked more like razors the pink had now turned a shallow, hard steel. They started shrieking and flying towards Danielle, “HEY! STUPID BIRDS” she shouted hitting them with her mace, but there were too many of them and they kept jabbing into her until she could swing no more, and the cannon fired.
Abi’s heart rate went back to normal and Joe walked out of the trees, “Thanks so much, but why didn’t they go for me?” she asked, “They are Danielle as a threat I guess” he explained, “I’ll see you at the feast he said as he walked back into the forest”. Abi made it back to Peeta and shouted at him for not coming to her rescue, he apologized and gave her a warm hug which couldn’t make her mad at him for long.

The sun could be seen to start setting any moment, it was time for the feast tributes around the Cornucopia were in place. The ground opened and a platform with 7 bags each with their own label appeared. Silence fell, then out of nowhere Abi ran to the platform to get her and Peeta’s bags, this attracted attention as Aurora and Sophia ran out from the side towards her, Joe sprinted behind them. Peeta followed and ran towards Abi.
“STAY BACK” Joe shouted to Aurora, he stood between Abi and Aurora, “What’s your problem” Aurora said. “We can work with her, I’ve been helping she’s very trustworthy” Joe explained. “You’ve been seeing her behind our backs?!” Aurora shouted. “Well… yes… but I got a good ally” Joe started to shake, “Urrgh you’re pathetic MOVE” Aurora demanded. But Joe did not budge, Aurora raised her spear and Joe had no choice but to move to the side, without pausing Aurora jabbed her spear into Abi’s leg which made her screech with pain and fall to the ground she couldn’t move or feel her legs.
“Ok that’s enough” Joe said stepping back into place. “She’s not dead is she?” Aurora said giving Joe a patronizing look. “She is working with us” Joe said back. Aurora took this as betrayal, she must have done because she jabbed her spear at Joe who dodged, “How dare you!” he shouted, and pulled out his spear, they started to swing and throw their spears at each other and were engaged in combat.
At the table Peeta rushed over to Abi but was stopped by Sophia they started to fight. Aman had now started running to the table, Sophia had knocked Peeta down with her sword, and didn’t take the risk of leaving Aman alone, she lunged forward and sung at her while Aman was grabbing her and Heathers bag, Aman cried and she fell to the ground, Sophia stopped the cries by swinging down on her chest, she then ran back to Peeta but he kicked her in the stomach their fight continued.
Joe had knocked Aurora’s spear out of her hand, he got his fist and punched her which made her fall to the ground, Abi was shocked she had never seen District partners fight each other before. Joe ran over to her, and handed her, her bag. He have her what was inside a small bottle of lotion, “Thanks, she smiled, “You’ve been so nice to me, I’ve never even known you before this” she smiled again her eyes gave such a genuine look. “It’s ok, I feel like we’ve seen and known each other before, you know I had this feeling that-“
He couldn’t finish his sentence, started to cough and splutter before falling to the ground. To Abi’s shock Aurora had regained consciousness, and stabbed Joe in the back, he was lurched on the ground dead, killed by his own district partner, now she was coming for me. She stabbed her spear into Abi’s stomach and Abi let out a horrific scream. Peeta had also been knocked to the ground by Sophia, she ran to get her sword that had been kicked out of the way.
“You’re going to get what you deserve.. Bitch” Aurora said stood over Abi. But before she could even lift her spear she was dragged back by her hair, “No one calls my sister a bitch” Heather said, she had made it from the mountains, it looks like she had gained control of her injuries. Peeta had now made it over to Abi and picked her up, Abi looked over to find Sophia faced down on the ground with cuts all over her. “She’s dead” Peeta said to her.
Peeta and Abi kissed, for the first time, it felt like heaven had come to earth and that they were the only ones around, a petrifying scream broke the moment and Aurora has stabbed her spear where Heather has been injured from before. Abi jumped from Peeta and seemed to have lost all pain, she had to save her sister, she grabbed Sophia’s sword and stabbed it into Aurora’s back, Aurora’s breath left her body and she dropped releasing Heather from her hands.
The three walked back to the mountain for the night, what was going to happen tomorrow was not talked about once together they sat and watched the sky for the killed tributes… Danielle Brear (1)… Sophia Chan (2)… Aurora Cosmos (4)… Joe Shaw (4)… Amanpreet Kaur (10)… 3 tributes remain. Abi said a little prayer for Joe thanking him for everything as did Heather with Aman. “They were all good people really” Peeta said. “How do you know?” Heather replied “Seemed pretty brutal to me”. “It’s like Joe said, doesn’t it feel like we know them all?” Peeta said back.

The next day arrived and the final three tributes stood up together, they knew only one of them could leave the arena alive. They walked together to the Cornucopia together, as they did they were stopped by a screen that appeared in the sky, it was good ol’ Caesar again.

“Hello tributes! You’ve done great making it this far, so good that we’d like to give you a deal, traditionally only one of you would survive but because we have two sisters and two District partners, two of you can live, we’re not heartless here (Caesar gave a little wink) have fun deciding we’ll see you soon”

Abi fell to the ground, she started to sob, “I can’t lose either one of you” She shouted, Heather adjusted her hair, and Peeta looked to the ground, “I love you” he said to Abi, “I love you that much I can’t come inbetween two sisters” Abi jolted up “No!! NO!” she shouted, “if we get out of here I won’t be able to see her, we’re in other Districts”
“What are you saying?” Heather said. “I don’t even know” Abi said sighing. They all heard a growl coming from the trees nearby, “W..What was that” Heather said. The growling got louder and a group of vicious creatures burst out, they ran straight for the tributes “I guess they’re deciding for us” Peeta shouted, Abi swung the sword and the closest one it cried in pain and ran backwards. They continued to fight and fight but whatever they did the creatures seemed to keep coming back.
“It’s no use..” Peeta said. “No matter what we do we’re not going to win” Peeta dropped his weapon and was struck down by one of the creatures, as the cannon blew, Abi’s world blew, the creatures stopped and they went back into the forest, it was over. Heather ran over to Abi but she broke free and ran over to Peeta, she grabbed on with all her might but his body was taken away,

They were flying home now, to the same District. Heather was given access to District 12. “I’m going to miss 5” she said. “I’m going to miss him” Abi said while putting her hand on the glass. And they travelled back home…

“It’s time to go” Heather shouted “One minute” Abi smiled back, she was putting some earrings on. She started to feel more optimistic, she found her sister and now they can live together, the pain will come back one day, but until then you can only enjoy life, the screen was showing the games. Emily dyeing, Abi thought she could have done more to help. Joe dyeing, he didn’t deserve that, District 4 will be appalled. Peeta dyeing, a tear rolled down her cheek it was too painful to watch. She started to walk towards the door. And with one final look back at the screen. They parted.
